Using Protocols to Model Mixed Initiative Interaction
نویسنده
چکیده
We are interested in the mechanisms needed to control computer initiative to allow systems to engage in mixedinitiative task-oriented/planning (TOP) dialogues. A TOP dialogue is about an ongoing task that may require replanning during its execution. We discuss our model for initiative and motivate the use of protocols. Finally, we present some protocol rules and analyze a TOP dialogue exchange in terms of them.

We show that partial evaluation can be usefully viewed as a programming model for realizing mixed-initiative functionality in interactive applications. Mixed-initiative interaction between two participants is one where the parties can take turns at any time to change and steer the flow of interaction. We concentrate on the facet of mixed-initiative referred to as ‘unsolicited reporting’ and dem...
متن کاملMixed-Initiative Interaction and Robotic Systems
A truly collaborative human-robot interaction framework should allow the participating agents to assume and relinquish initiative depending upon their own capabilities and their understanding of the environment. The goal of this work is to define and develop a mixed-initiative human– robot collaborative architecture in which affect-based sensing plays a critical role in initiative switching. Af...
متن کاملManaging Design Knowledge with Mixed-Initiative Dialogue
This paper is based on ongoing work in developing interactive interfaces to formal methods for encoding design knowledge. It reports on the development of a shared graphical notation to support user interaction with design knowledge based on mixed-initiative. Mixed-initiative provides a model of interaction where both the designer and the knowledge formalism may share responsibility over decisi...

In this paper, we propose a model called MITS — Mixed Initiative Intelligent Tutoring System for Sudoku. Extrapolating from theory for tutoring in scholastic subjects, and tutoring in the game of chess, we develop a model for tutoring the game of Sudoku using a mixed-initiative paradigm. Moreover, our aim is to design a system which not only proposes moves to make but also gives advice on why a...
متن کاملIntegrating Agent-Based Mixed-Initiative Control with an Existing Multi-Agent Planning System
One of the less appreciated obstacles to scaling multi-agent systems is understanding the impact of the role(s) that people will play in those systems. As we try to adapt existing software tools and agent-based applications to play supportive roles in larger multi-agent systems, we must develop strategies for coordinating not only the problem solving behavior of these agent communities, but als...
